BENNINGTON- Christian H. Nikoloff, 72, formerly of West Dover, died peacefully Wednesday, March 19, at the Vermont Veterans Home.
Mr. Nikoloff was born in Bulgaria on September 27, 1936, the son of Gladwyn Vesselin and Emilia (Dotcheva) Nikoloff, and attended local schools. Upon moving to the United States, he graduated from high school in New York City, was a 1959 graduate of the New York State Maritime College with a bachelor of science in maritime transportation and weather. He entered the U. S. Navy Merchant Marine and was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Cuban Blockage. He retired from United States Lines as a ship captain in 1986 and then piloted cargo ships around the world. He enjoyed skiing, golf, fishing, and his vegetable gardens, and piloted his own airplane.
Mr. Nikoloff is survived by two cousins, Martha D. Jackson, of South Attleboro, MA, and Joseph Zaplishny, of Lakeland, FL; and very dear friends John and Jane Smith and their family, of Trenton, NJ. He was preceded in death by his brother Stefan Nickoloff. At Mr. Nikoloff’s request there will be no funeral services.
